Looks like we have a fabulous weekend coming up. We will be having a dance weekend that brings back highlights of the past years in Portland Swing. Friday Night Swing at the Viscount (Now Bossanova) and Sunday Swing at the Crystal Ballroom.

This would be an excellent occasion to invite out of town friends to or even friends that are interested in swing dancing. Please let everyone know and help us out by posting about these events where ever possible.

Here are the event pages on Facebook:

I appreciate all the support and excitement about this event! I've been doing the best I can to get the word out about these events and I do hope that everyone hears about it. Please be sure you're friends know what's happening. Any help getting the word out is greatly appreciated.

Tonight's the night for the big swing dance at the Crystal Ballroom.
We have the live music of Bridgetown Sextet and the Stolen Sweets and
the amazing floating dance floor of the Crystal Ballroom to keep our
toes tappin' throughout the night. We also have DJ'd tunes by Richard
Basi, and live performances by two women's chorus groups: Good Time
Girls and Rose City Rosettes. It's a night not to be missed, and I do
hope to see you there! Please remind all your friends.

This afternoon we also have an early party in Lola's Room just right
below the Crystal Ballroom. It has the same floating dance floor in a
more intimate setting. We'll have the live music of the Djangophiles
starting at 2:00. This was my favorite experience last year to hear
the Djangophiles in the room. I hope to see you there!

It takes a lot of effort to organize events, especially when it comes to multiple bands and fancy venues. Thank you Russ for puttin' this together for the swing community. smile.gif

P.S. The Sweets were amazing.... as usual!

I said the same thing to my ride home. It's very difficult to understand really how much effort and time it takes to organize something of this scale.

Take a bow, Russ.

Echoing everyone else's sentiments, thanks Russ for throwing a killer event over the weekend.

I wasn't able to make it to the Bossanova but the whole day at the Crystal was damned nice.

Thanks every one!

Dancing in Portland over the years has been an amazing experience. I remember when there was dancing at the Crystal Ballroom every Sunday and the time when there was dancing at the Viscount every Friday. It never was meant to last forever, but I sure never wanted it to stop. It was a pleasure bringing it back for a weekend.

I don't think anyone can doubt that Russ puts on some of the best events in town. His style is impeccable, his passion and dedication are pretty obvious. He proactively put together a weekend to fill the vacuum of the Portland Lindy Exchange that would happen around now. He seems like he has excellent working relationships with the local bands here.

He should continue being a maverick in what he offers because it's pretty unique especially in Portland's small swing community, and well enjoyed by a lot of people, myself included, as long as it's done with fairness and respect to the other organizers who also work hard to bring something to the community.
