St. Patrick's Day theme dance for Sunday Swing on March 14th at the Scottish Rite with Dj's Andrew & Ida spinning 3's! On Sunday March 21st the Rite is not available so Sunday Swing & all classes will be at Paradise Studio 826 SE Belmont. On the 21st only the Balboa 1 class will change it's start time to 4pm.

What's up with all the venue changes?
Good question with a lengthy answer... so here's the short version. Huge, beautiful ballrooms in Portland are very expensive to rent without special arrangements. Our special arrangement for Sunday Swing at the Scottish Rite is that we get the space for a much cheaper rent because of being there regularly and because of being "willing" to be bumped out whenever they get a renter who can pay full price. I apologize for the last minute changes and the compromise they have given me is that we will be given more notice of these changes so we can better get the word out. Thanks to all of you who come dancing regularly and who are willing to be flexible so that we can all continue to have great evenings of dancing week after week. Without all of you there would be no dance community. I will do my best to notify everyone when there are changes but please help everyone out by staying informed yourselves and spreading the word about changes! The next venue change is on Sunday, March 21st --> to Paradise Studio.

Beginning Swing Drop-In Lessons:
-7:00PM at the Sunday Swing Dance (Registration opens at 6:45PM)
-Included in the cost of the evening's dance admission.
-Student with ID/Stumptown Dance Member – $6!
-General – $8
This class is not a series and is taught by a variety of skilled instructors. Basic steps will be covered and a different selection of moves will be taught in each class with some review. If you are new to partner dancing this is a great way to learn and meet new people who are in the same boat. If you have some experience and want a refresher or to try dancing the other part (lead vs. follow) to experience what your dance partners feel that is great too. This is typically a Six-Count (East Coast) Swing lesson with the possibility of adding in a few basics of Charleston etc. As with series classes, you do not need to bring a partner. We will be rotating so that everyone gets to dance and meet new people.

About Series Classes:

Lindy Hop 1 Series:

Lindy Hop 1 Class Description:
Taught by Mindy Hazeltine and Coyle Parker
This class covers everything you need to get you started in lindy hop. You will be taught the core movements of the dance, how to use them effectively and how to communicate them to your partner and maximize your leading/following through that communication. This class is structured so that new and intermediate lindy hoppers can learn something valuable to take to the social dance floor.

Balboa 1 Series:
Every Sunday in March
5:00PM-5:55PM @ The Scottish Rite (Come @ 4:45 to register)

Balboa 1 Class Description:
Taught by Mindy Hazeltine and Rod Young
This class covers everything you need to start your Balboa off on the right foot. You will be taught the fundamental movements and connection of this dance. This will include concepts of communication (leading/following) within the dance partnership and how to use them to get the most out of every dance. We want you to learn more than just where to put your feet. This class is structured so that new and intermediate balboa dancers can learn something valuable to take to the social dance floor.

Class Series Costs:
Student with ID/Stumptown Dance Member- $35 (if paid in full on or before the start of the 1st session)
General- $40 (If paid if full on or before the start of the first session)
Session Drop-In- $12 per session
Classes are non-refundable/transferrable

Private Lessons:
Mindy Hazeltine is available for private lessons in; Lindy Hop, Charleston, Six-Count Swing & Balboa.
Student with ID/Stumptown Dance Member- $45 per hour*
General- $50 per hour*
