This Month In Swing
http://swingout.net mailto: swingoutnet@gmail.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this issue 1. News 2. This Week In Swing 3. Chat 4. Instruction 5. Locations 6. Friends of Swing 7. National Events & Lindy Exchanges -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. News The Loose Marbles from New Orleans will be arriving in Portland in less than a week. This is SERIOUSLY the current hottest swing band in the country. Booked at a variety of national lindy hop events, Loose Marbles can be found all over the world and on the internet machine in places like You Tube! They will be making several appearances including one at the venue formerly known as the Viscount Ballroom! Here are some places to find the Loose Marbles this week: Their first stop will be at the Thursday dance at the PPAA. Cover charge for this event is $10 unless you are registered for the Stefan and Bethany Workshop. In this case, you may come in for the regular weekly cover charge of $6 per person. As mentioned, Stefan and Bethany will be in Portland to teach a weekend workshop at Paradise. As a special treat, Stefan and Bethany will be joined by the Loose Marbles for a couple special musicality classes. The entire weekend of 8 classes total, Saturday-Sunday, is available for $50 to those that register in advance. One day passes are available for $40. Drop-in rate is $15 per class. Full weekend passes at the door for $60. More information for that can be found here: http://swingout.net/index.php?showtopic=1979 The Last stop for the Loose Marbles will be at the venue formerly known as the Viscount, currently known as the Bossanova, on Saturday August 9th. This venue now with all ages and full bar, has recently been re-renovated to bring it back to it's classic Victorian state. In this show the Loose Marbles will be joined with Pete Krebs and his Portland Playboys for an unforgettable Swing Masquerade. Tickets for this event are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Great price for 2 live bands in front of the cherry dance floor! More information can be found here: http://swingtimepdx.com/category/events "Swing in the Park" is also on its way. It's at Milo McIver State Park near Estacada on Saturday August 16. Full detail on this event found here: http://swingout.net/index.php?showtopic=1845 Aside from that, the calendar on http://swingout.net/calendar is always impressively accurate, and also be on the lookout for the many live swing events happening in the parks, beer festivals, wedding receptions, etc. Dance Etiquette Tip of the Week (more tips here: http://swingout.net/etiquette) If you bump another couple, try to immediately look back and apologize. If another couple bumps you, apologize even if it is their fault. The experienced dancer knows that toes will be stepped on and people will bump into one another. Don't let the occasional accident get you down. If you happen to be dancing near an erratic lead, relocate to another part of the floor. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.
